About Us

Started as an idea in a small country town, Latin Madness was formed by a group of dancers looking to bring national and internationally recognized dance teachers to Mackay on a monthly basis to share their skills with the local community. Even though studios offer wonderful opportunity to expand dance skill, the opportunities to learn at workshops with world class Latin teachers were restricted to flying to Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne to experience these clubs. Latin Madness will bring teachers from these locations for local dancers to expand their experiences. Latin Madness will also gladly assist any queries about surrounding dance studios and will help you find a studio that suits your style. We mainly focus on street Latin for its party atmosphere and great dance styles.

With sound guidance from Steve Hargreaves, Latin Madness was born from an idea in a shed in a small country town called Nebo and came to fruition, with the first official meeting on the 19th of January 2010. The club has ongoing development of its products and is always open to suggestions.

We meet at our clubhouse every Thursday night for a dance party. We start at 7pm warm-up with basic steps. At 7:30 we learn from our instructors dance styles that we have learnt in previous workshops. From 9pm music keeps playing, with demonstrations from our instructors and more professional dancers and dance til late. We also meet every second Friday night at Blue Water Quay on the river for open air dancing. Join us for a free night of dancing under the stars.
Our clubhouse is the Langford’s Hotel, 40 Tennyson Street, Mackay. Langford’s is also one of our wonderful sponsors and being under one of the best publican’s in the business, Buddo, Lorraine and his team are willing to help in any way possible.

Luke Jorgensen and Casey Donnellan are our dance instructors for Latin Madness. Luke has been dancing for five years and has travelled overseas with his dancing. Luke’s experience is very wide and he is highly skilled in Zouk, Salsa, Bichata and Meringae. He is a very patient teacher and can help from the most basic steps to the more advanced moves. Casey has been dancing since the start of 2009 and has competed in Latin dance competitions. A young and enthusiastic dancer, Casey is an excellent performer and is willing to help in any way possible.
